Description
An early 19th century American Federal "Matteson Type" dome top storage box from South Shaftsbury, Vermont. Basswood construction features a lift-top with interior dust moldings on a dovetailed body. Retains the original multi-color painted finish with crotch graining within a "banded" border on top and facade, fanciful crotch graining on sides and back. Wear and minor paint losses along the edges, lacks the inner dust molding on the left side, old glued repair to back of lid, replaced hasp. 30 x 14 x 12" high overall. ESTIMATE $600-800 NOTE: This box was formerly in the Caroline Hebb collection, Dearborn, Michigan.
