Description
The vase is decorated with symbols and high relief dragons, one entwining the neck with claws outstretched; manufacturer's mark on base. 16 1/8in h. Condition: The dragons on the body have broken off/missing head crests. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
