Achaemenide Bronze Ibex Weight (10 Babylonian Shekels) c. 6th-5th Century B.C.
Seated ibex, long curving horns, legs tucked under his body, head turned sideways. Superb lustre patina.
Such figures were used as weights. This figure weighs 85 grams or 10 Babylonian/Near-Eastern shekels used also by the Persians (8.46 in today’s grams.)

Provenance: Swiss collection, Mrs. A. A., acquired in the 1990’s in a Paris gallery.
