Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A well-preserved amulet depicting the falcon-headed god Horus, god of the sun, the sky, protection, and kingship, that is covered in light green glaze. Presenting with his left foot forward, Horus holds both hands to the sides of his shendyt skirt while looking forward with a piercing gaze. His petite avian beak protrudes from the center of his face while surmounting his head is a sun disk and royal uraeus cobra. Size: 0.45" L x 0.32" W x 1.24" H (1.1 cm x 0.8 cm x 3.1 cm)
Exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1996 to 2023, reference number EL01.216.1996.

Condition
Repaired from 2 large pieces across dorsal pillar and beneath chin, with very small chips and faint break lines. Minor abrasions and softening to some finer details, otherwise in excellent condition. Great remains of glaze and overall form.
