Box has handle flanged at top, painted with flowers, the upper panel with snipe hinges has a painting of a schoolroom with studious children and their master, fixed panel at bottom has Dutch inscription that translates as: "Here is a Governor (teacher) who looks after the welfare of children's souls. He uses the rod when necessary, and it sets a good example by word and deed before they are grown up, for then it is too late. Bloeymaend, 1704". 16 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 3 1/4".
