Description
GRENFELL FOLK ART POLAR BEAR PICTORIAL HOOKED MAT AND STUFFED ANIMAL, LOT OF TWO, comprising a hooked mat, dyed silk or rayon stocking materials, rectangular form, depicting a polar bear standing on an ice, pulling out a fish from the water, later mounted to fabric on a piece of wood; and a mohair polar bear stuffed animal, having sewn-on facial features and leather paws. Each piece with applied "Grenfell Labrador Industries" label. Grenfell Mission, Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada; mat designed by Rudolph Freund, Philadelphia, PA. Circa 1936. Mat 6 3/4" x 8 3/4"; stuffed animal 5 1/2" HOA, 8 1/4" LOA.

Very good overall condition with minor wear; mat with some fading/fugitive color, back in unknown condition; stuffed animal with one ear loose but attached.
