Lyon, Antonius Du Ry for Francesco Turchi, Domenico Berticinio and Jacopo Giunta. First edition of the first Latin Bible of modern times, and the first Bible in which the text is divided into numbered verses; translated circa 1493-1520 by Sancuts Pagninus of Lucca Rumball-Petre. Antonius du Ry printer. Renaissance hand-tooled leather binding, impressed on front cover is M. Leonhardus Badhorn. 1535. Bound on spine with a contemporary brown leather overlay, spine contains 5 ridges of with the title falls in compartment #3, title in #4 and the date,1527, in the 5th. Adams B1008; Darlow & Moule 6108.
Condition
The clasps have been removed with the covers having some toning and some wear commensurate to its age and damp staining noticed in lower corner of folio leaves 2-25 and 70-81. Usual toning of paper throughout out. The leaf edges have toning h.10.25" w. 7", d. 3".
