INDONESIAN CARVED AND DECORATED WOODEN GARUDA PUPPETS, mid -to-late 20th Century. Javanese antique folk art three-dimensional wooden puppets (one elephant and one bird) used for Wayang Golek, a traditional form of Sundanese puppet theatre play from West Java (especially in the Pasundan land area), Indonesia. Hand-carved and painted wood depictions of the celestial vehicle of the gods - 2 forms of Garuda - the elephant and the eagle. Consignor acquired puppets directly from Pak Wayan, a master puppet maker in Indonesia. - Length (elephant): 30 inches.
