Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Medieval Near East / Western Asia, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, Islamic culture, ca. late 10th to early 13th century CE. A hand-built pottery mug with iridescent blue-green glaze enveloping much of the upper half. The vessel exhibits a compressed spherical body that rests atop a squat foot, a cylindrical rim, and a slender strap handle with a petite thumb rest arching between the rim and shoulder. The glaze has an alkaline base which gives it its signature color, and the brightly colored pottery body - made from finely ground quartz mixed with clay - meant that the applied glaze pigment would firmly adhere when fired in a kiln. Size: 3.25" W x 3.4" H (8.3 cm x 8.6 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
