**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Tlatilco to early Maya, Pre-Classic, 700 BCE to 200 CE; Valley of Mexico, Aztec, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A collection of pottery heads - each a fragment from a larger statue or attached to the side of a vessel. The 2 Aztec bird heads depict eagles with great remaining pigments on the surface: ochre yellow and blue-green. The slightly convex verso suggests these were appliques that may have attached to an incensario. The Maya figure head may represent a lord or elite person as indicated with the large earspools and tall coiffure / headdress. Size of human head: 2" L x 1.3" W (5.1 cm x 3.3 cm)
Provenance: private British Columbia, Canada collection, gifted from aunt in Tucson, Arizona, USA, acquired prior to 1994

Condition
Head fragments from larger pieces as shown. One eagle has a repairs to the right side, pieces reattached and visible break line. The other 2 heads are intact. Light mineral deposits throughout. Good remaining pigment on the eagle heads.
