Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Guangala, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A fabulous example of a still-functioning pottery ocarina in the form of a standing male figure. Presenting a thick body, the ancient figure stands on straight legs and holds both arms at his sides. Decorative incised lines adorn his arms, legs, and torso, perhaps representing clothing, tattoos, scarification, or some combination of all the above. A tall headdress towers above his stylized visage, which displays a pair of huge, almond-shaped eyes, a triangular nose, and full lips, all flanked by 2 large earspools. A blow hole is featured atop his head with 2 additional holes on his shoulder blades, allowing the piece to produce a lovely whistling sound when blown into. Size: 2.375" W x 4.75" H (6 cm x 12.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Valencia, California, USA collection acquired around 1985
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
