Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Yupik & Inuit, Thule / Pre-Contact Period, ca. 12th to 18th century CE. A collection of 3 bone tools- each made from a marine animal or caribou. The largest is an adze or axe head, with a smooth and slightly recessed groove and abraded butt end for lashing to a handle, and the wider flared area has a hollow slot for inserting a sharp stone blade. The other bone with an open slot and a closed rounded end, may have served a similar hafting purpose for use as a scraper or cutting tool. The third item is perhaps a hunting or fishing counterweight, with several drilled lashing holes and recessed sockets for surmounting on the tail end of a spear or harpoon shafts as a counterweight. Each is enveloped in a deep brown patina attesting to their great age. Size (largest bone): 5" L x 2.25" W (12.7 cm x 5.7 cm)

Splintering and losses to midsized bone hafting head, stable fissures, abrasions, and losses around slot opening. Stable fissures and abrasions to large bone hafting head, otherwise intact. Bone weight object is missing part of the opposite wing, old loss and lustrous surface throughout. Brown patina across all pieces.
