Description
Made for the James and Mildred Graham family, c. 1880, watercolor on paper. A four-section family record surrounded by stenciled fruit and flowers, and with two US flags on top. Included are the parents and children of the Graham family. In a modern frame, 21.5" high, 26" wide (overall). Born in Ohio, James T. Graham (1826-1880) headed west, arriving in Marion County, Indiana by 1850. There he married Mildred Smithers (1831-1900) and the couple set up household, James working as a carpenter.By 1860, the couple, now with four children, had relocated to Lukin, Illinois, where they remained, James working as a farmer (and probably doing carpentry work during the winter months). They had six children: William (1851-1923), Louis (1853-1939), John (1857-1939), Theodore (1859-1950), Martha (b. 1863), and Mildred (1866-1953).
