Description
probably Stark County, 1848. Olive green, tomato red, dark blue, and natural, with corner blocks reading "Made in Lewisville Ohio 1848." 81" by 68". This was likely made in Louisville, Stark County. When the town was founded, it was initially names Lewisville (after one of the founder's sons), but was later changed by the Post Office after it was discovered that there was already a Lewisville, Ohio. Stark County had a large enough population in the mid-19th century to support multiple coverlet weavers. The "original" Lewisville is in Monroe County, but is very small and very rural and likely would not have had a professional coverlet weaver in the 1840s.
