Description
Portrait of French anatomist and surgeon (attending Napoleon Bonapart, among others,) Baron Guillaume Dupuytren, (1777-1836.) The portrait is signed Beaumont and dated 1862, possibly drawn after a lithograph by François-Séraphin Delpech. A note in French below the portrait is partly illegible, but seems to say the portrait was offered to a Dr. Miller by 'his grandson', whether that is the grandson of Dr. Miller, Baron Duputren, or another name appearing in the note, which may read Horace Vernir (or similar,) is not entirely clear. The note is signed Frederic de Beaumont (or similar,) Washington, Mars. 1862. Frame, approx. 11" x 9". Ink portrait, approx. 4" x 3".
