Description
1811 SURGERY 1ed Abernethy Observations Head & Brain Injuries Medicine RARE
John Abernethy was an 18th-century English surgeon known for series of books “Surgical Observations”. In his medical surveys and discoveries, Abernethy noted that much of the diseases he treated could have been lessened or avoided by better diet. In fact, he tended to treat most of his diseased patients with prescribing better eating and health habits. One of his best works was his “On Injuries of the Head”, from the “Surgical Observations”. This work is a collection of his medical cases – description of the injury or illness, his diagnoses, treatments, and results. Many of the cases include the nature of the injury. Note the first case:
“A woman, 40 years old, was admitted into the hospital for a wound on her head. About a week before, her husband had knocked her down with a brass candlestick!”
