Description
Vera Eugenia Andrus (Am.1895-1979), on wove paper depicting emerging skunk cabbage in a rainy marsh, with a frog in the foreground, signed, titled, and dated in pencil along the bottom edge, print numbered 19 from an edition of 20. Frame size: 19 1/2" high, 22 1/4" wide; sight size: 9 1/2" high, 12 1/2" wide. Andrus was a Wisconsin native and lifelong friend of fellow illustrator Wanda Gag. She won a scholarship to the Art Students League in 1934. Andrus worked closely with master printer George C. Miller and Miller's son Burr to produce seventy-five different lithographs, each printed in small editions. She also worked as a staff member at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for twenty-eight years. Minor toning. Not examined out of frame. Provenance: Aaron Galleries, Chicago; label verso.
