Salem, Massachusetts handwritten letter (ALS) dated July 8, 1794. Teacher John Walton sends a letter home regarding a in trouble student.
In-full: "Madam [Mrs. Brown] However difficult it may be to account for the conduct of your little son yesterday yet allow me to say the representation he then made to you (as I am informed) is absolutely false. I did not correct him it is method I highly disapprove of and adopt it only when absolutely necessary other kind of punishment may prove as effectual & _? painful. Respecting Miss Cheever she never attempted to make an impression on my mind to his disadvantage. She must be _? of the ompropriety as well as my disapprobation of such conduct. And it is not for me to point out to you the consequences resulting from your sons conduct if _? proved you well know what they are and know how to prevent them and presume such a mode of conduct will be adopted in future as may prove effectual. I am your humble servant, John Walton."
