Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A cast-bronze axe head of intimidating form bearing a vertical blade edge that extends from a lengthy neck. The cylindrical socketing shaft is lined with 4 nubbin spikes that were perhaps used as a secondary striking head. Layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of brown and green have developed across the surfaces. Size: 6.75" L x 1.5" W x 2" H (17.1 cm x 3.8 cm x 5.1 cm)
Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.
