Description
LLcklla, Cala Cala (?), Bolivia, C. 1920-60, Quechua, Wool. A woman’s ceremonial mantle with a lovely raspberry pampa which can be cleaned. The elaborately woven center design band incorporating horses, fertility symbols agricultural and cosmic designs is offset, that is it is woven on one loom panel instead of being split between the two. The two panels are deliberately created with different edge selvage colors possibly referencing the dual moieties of the community. Size: 36'' x 43'' (91 x 109 cm).
