An architectural oak bookcase top marked "The Tabard Inn / The Best Reading Rooms In The United States Are The Homes Of The American People". The Tabard Inn Library was founded in 1902 by Seymour Eaton. It was administered by the Booklovers Library, another Eaton enterprise. It was a membership library with stations in the form of revolving bookcases located in drug stores and other commercial establishments throughout the United States - the name itself came from the Inn of the same name in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales . Some molding losses, but overall good condition, circa 1902. It measures 27" square x 18"H. A complete bookcase was sold by Christies in London for 2000 GBP ($2500).
