William H. Rau (Philadelphia, 1855-1929). A historical grouping of 12 Rau glass slide (photographs) of Theodore Roosevelt as Colonel and as President. Includes images as Rough Rider and as president including his first and second presidential inaugurations. All plates are signed Rau Studios, Inc, Philadelphia Pa. All in very good condition. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books. the hand written inscription on the top of each image - 3 1/4" x 4". Also, another glass image is added to this lot, same size, but unmarked, showing a gentleman on horseback riding through and unknown town.
