Description
An etching titled "The First Observation of the Transit of Venus" after original artwork by Ford Maddox Brown (English 1821-1893) and engraved by George Wooliscroft Rhead (English 1855-1920) - 13 1/2" x 9 3/4" - white border with staining otherwise good condition; together with 2 small maps including "Map of America with the Latest Discoveries" 1797 and "A New Map of Africa from the best Authorities" 1797 - the later with tear in border, both with fold marks, some foxing, otherwise good condition - the largest measures 10 1/4" x 8 5/8". Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
