The Lemp family of St Louis have many stories to tell, including the many suicides of the Lemp family members.The funeral of Adam Lemp must have been a spectacular affair. When the scion of the Western Brewery died of cirrhosis in 1862, not only was he one of the most respected members of St. Louis society, he was also the keystone of a large extended family via his three marriages, with the third being Louise Bauer Lemp.Adam’s wealth at his death allowed him to take care of everyone in his family. But the most pressing issue was the well-being of the step-children and grandchildren of his third wife, Louise Bauer, whom he had married sometime in the 1840s. The Lemp Mansion is a historical house in Benton Park, St Louis MO. It is also the site of three suicides by Lemp family members after the death of the son Frederick Lemp, whose William J. Lemp Brewing Company dominated the St. Louis beer market before Prohibition with its Falstaff Beer brand. The mansion is said to be haunted by members of the Lemp family.
