Description
NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS (2007) - Production-Made John Wilkes Booth (Christian Camargo) Diary - A production-made John Wilkes Booth (Christian Camargo) diary from Jon Turteltaub's National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Booth gave his diary to Thomas Gates (Joel Grestch), the ancestor of Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), to work out a cipher.
Created by book designer Ross MacDonald based on extensive research of the original Booth diary, this black and red leather diary is dated 1864 and features printed and handwritten annotated pages with a wooden pencil. Included is a hardcover copy of MacDonald's "Prop Man" featuring MacDonald's works, including the diary, and is autographed by MacDonald in black ink. This diary was created by production as a back-up, kept on stand-by in case the copies being used on set were lost or damaged, and varies from those made as gifts, as these original master copies were each hand-altered to coincide with the script and final screening, whereas gift versions were full printed copies. This lot exhibits intentional distressing by production. Dimensions: (open diary) 6" x 11.5" x 1.25" (15.5 cm x 29 cm x 3 cm)
Additional Provenance: Letter of Authenticity from Ross MacDonald
Estimate: $5,000 - 10,000
Bidding for this lot will end on Tuesday, March 12th. The auction will begin at 9:00AM PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace.
