Peake, Elvira (American/Pittsburgh, 1929-2020), Pair of Framed Relief pieces, 1961 and 1962, glazed ceramic and terra cotta, 7 x 14 inches and 6 x 12.5 inches, both mounted to wood frames. Provenance: Exhibited at the Three Rivers Arts Festival, with original tags on the backs. An award-winning ceramist and doyenne of the local art scene, Elvira Peake hosted clay artists from around the world at her gallery and championed art education for more than six decades in Pittsburgh. She was perhaps best known as an art teacher and proprietor of The Clay Place, an art store, gallery and studio, which operated for more than 30 years in Shadyside before relocating to Carnegie in 2006.
