Known for decades as "The Lindbergh Packard" this stunning touring car was built in Detroit at the sprawling Packard Assembly Plant on East Grand Boulevard. The car was sold through Packard Motor Car Company New York. No delivery date is specified. The 443 series was built between 1927-1928. Packards of this era are renowned for their luxurious finishes and exceptional engineering. The car looks intimidating, but on the road it offers a smooth and easy drive. This low mileage, numbers matching Packard underwent a meticulous restoration in 2005 by Stan Uher of Classic Coachworks in Blenheim, Ontario. It was returned from tones of flashy turquoise to its original black finish. The tan wheels and well-fitted Haartz cloth top with boot are complimentary. The interior including the rear jump seat was tailored with chestnut leather. Of particular note is the wood-grained dash which features a tooled leather gauge panel. All mechanicals were rebuilt including the original 385 cubic inch straight eight engine. Serial number: 230508. Engine number: 230508A. Frame Number: 230487. Body Tag Number: 380-7.Celebrated as "The Lindbergh Packard" the car was on permanent display at the Antique Auto Museum in Niagara Falls, Ontario during the 1960s. "The Lindbergh Packard" was said to have been made for Charles 'Lucky Lindy', the American Aviator who courageously made the first solo non-stop flight from New York to Paris. Though hard evidence remains to be found, this custom packard's body number is stamped "380 - 7". Could this, the 7th Packard produced in this series produced, have been made for Lindbergh?The Antique Auto Museum closed less than 10 years after it had opened. All vehicles were auctioned off in November, 1971. This vehicle has remained in private collections since.
