DESCRIPTION: Carved wood Y-shaped pillar for a Dogon togu na ("discussion hut") featuring low relief crocodiles on the forked segments and on verso and a high relief two-headed figure above a man along the main shaft.
Pillars like this are support beams for huts used by men of the Dogon tribe inhabiting the central plateau region of the west African nation of Mali. The pillar and hut's roof are intentionally low to discourage men from standing and fighting during heated discussion.

CONDITION: Minor wear/narrow cracks consistent with age and use
