Description
2 Folk Art Wooden Name Signs from horse stalls. 1st item: Wooden green painted carved sign with the incised name "Dan Patch" highlighted by yellow paint applied to name. 30 7/8" W x 3 1/8" H. 2nd item - A shaped wooden sign with black painted letters reading "Sara G. Arworthy, Record for mile, 2.11". 29 1/4" W x 5 3/8" H. Both early 20th century. Note: Dan Patch was a pacer foaled in Oxford Indiana who became one of the most famous horses of his day, breaking world speed records at least 14 times in the early 1900s. His records included fastest mile by a harness horse (official record 1m:55 1/4s, set in Lexington, Kentucky in 1905; unofficial record for 1:55 set in 1906 at the Minnesota State Fair. Whether this Dan Patch stall sign was actually used for this famous horse or to commemorate this famous horse is unknown.
Condition
Both overall very good condition with expected wear to paint.
