Item Details
Description
Special copy of an American Civil War regimental history. Inscribed "To Comrade Abram Sahm with compliments of Harry Watson." Abram Sahm is listed in the book as a private with Company E; James H. Watson is listed in the book (and is featured in a full-page photo) as a captain with Company G. He is the only Watson in the book. Watson was on the committee that prepared data for this history. The 121st Pennsylvania saw action in every battle fought by the Grand Army of the Potomac. They were with Doubleday's First Division that delayed the Rebels on the first day of Gettysburg which, by many accounts, was perhaps the most important action of the war--the event that turned the tide in that battle giving the Union time to prepare their defenses, thus ultimately assuring the future of our country. The 121st regiment is number 18 on the list of 300 regiments that suffered the highest mortality of the war. They fought at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Appomattox Court House and many other memorable battles. This book is signed by an American hero and inscribed to another American hero, people to which we as Americans owe a great debt of gratitude. “History of the 121st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers “An Account from the Ranks,” published 1906 by The Survivor's Association. Generally clean with wrinkling to rear cover. Minor water stain on front cover; fading to outside edges of covers. Three tips showing a tiny bit of board. Fraying to spine ends and one small spot at top board edge, otherwise normal rubbing. Front hinge broken, rear hinge a little weak. Interior fine with foldout map of Gettysburg in perfect condition except for a 1" tear at the top where it's tipped in. 7 x 10. 299 pages plus List of Illustrations and Index.
