Description: Box of variously sized booklets, notebooks, correspondence and other ephemera.Collection from the Thomas Chavner family archive, including letters, notebooks, ledgers and other ephemera concerning various members of the family particularly Thomas and his daughter Margaret. Thomas Chavner established the community of Gold Hill, Oregon after the discovery of the Gold Hill Lode on his property. In addition to accumulating property throughout the area, Chavner also established the first toll bridge over the Rogue River. His influence extended beyond Oregon; in earlier days, he was involved in the Texas Revolution, and in the exploration of the far west - he is credited with introducing John Charles Fremont to Kit Carson.
