Description: 4 parts in booklet form + 4 loose plates. With 36 total engraved plates after drawings by Thomas Allom. Booklets approximately 29x22.5 cm (11½x9"), string-bound printed pictorial wrappers.First published in 1843 as "China in a Series of Views," and subsequent editions bore variants of the title, differing numbers of plates, and revisions to the text as the course of history marched on. The various engravings depict the architecture, customs, people and landscapes of mid 19th century China.
Condition
Ink marks and stamps on wrapper margins; varying damage to wrappers; toning and foxing to pages and plates, mostly marginal, images largely clean; very good.
