Description
Vintage Crookes Railway (Paddlewheel) Tube (ca. 1910-1940) Cathode Ray Tube. Invented (1880s) by William Crookes during his investigations unto the nature of cathode rays (electrons). When the high voltage is applied, the paddle wheel travels down the glass "railway tracks" towards the anode. This demonstrates the fact that the cathode rays possess momentum. Each paddle has fluorescent strips attached to it that fluoresce when struck by electrons. Second electromagnetic tube on stand. Both in good condition with no cracks.
