Nicholas Culpepers comprehensive, iconic medicinal work, “The Complete Herbal,” provides a myriad of detailed descriptions of herbs and their medicinal properties. As an English botanist, herbalist, physician, and astrologer, Culpeper shared in this book his knowledge of plants and their ties to human health. He was innovative in his time, translating Latin documents about American medicinal plants, influencing both European and North American medicine. The book is a rich collection of herbal and pharmaceutical knowledge, profusely illustrated with hand-colored illustrations of herbs and plants. Culpeper emphasized understanding the reason behind medicinal properties of herbs based on astrological insights, aiming to provide a logical foundation to herbal medicine.
