Sketches, New and Old, published in 1875, was a collection of 63 of Samuel Clemenss earliest newspaper and journal writings. It was his most ambitious, most thoroughly sifted, and most fully revised collection of his apprentice work. It was also his final one. Some works include:

Many of the short stories in this collection were of materials that Twain used in his public readings and lectures. It was published similarly to that of many of his other subscription books, but it was a much smaller book and printed on more squarish paper than that of his other works.
