Wheeler, Farris Warren (1882-1968) (Lived in Illinois / Northridge / San Simeon / Palm Desert)
Farris Wheeler was born June 25, 1882 in Iowa. In 1930 he was working as a real estate broker in San Gabriel, Ca., where he resided with wife, Bessie and son, Robert (age 22). Farris and Bessie moved to Sepulveda (in West Los Angeles) c. 1946 at which time he took up painting, having been in the business of restoring paintings for many years.
He was active with the San Fernando Valley Professional Artists' Guild. By 1958 he "settled" in Palm Desert. By that date, his paintings had been exhibited at the Greek Theater, the Friday Morning Club, the Ebell Club and the Laguna Beach Art Association. He was also a member of the California Art Club and the Desert Art Center.
In 1960, Wheeler, described as a former Oakland realtor, had spent two years in the southwest and was then living 14 miles north of San Simeon where he was painting seascapes and other coastal scenes.
Wheeler died in Cambria in January 1968. One of his paintings was once in the collection of the Sepulveda Woman's Club.
