Description
East Asia, China, Song-Jin Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1279 CE. A rare Jun ware bowl exhibiting a smooth and lustrous glaze across the interior surfaces and much of the exterior. A bubble-suffusing technique creates a speckled pattern in the glaze that pleasingly ombre blends from a black rim to blue and white over the stoneware. The broad vessel body is supported by a squat, unglazed discoid foot that maintains the stability of the wide walls, especially when filled with liquid. Jun ware, also known as "Jun porcelain," is a type of Chinese ceramics that originated during the Song Dynasty (960-1127) and is highly regarded for its unique and distinctive glazes. Jun ware is famous for its beautiful luster and often "ice crackle" glazes, which come in various shades of blue, purple, and green. Straw ash is traditionally one of the key components in the glaze that form the variegated colors and bubbles escaping from the glaze create the freckled appearance. Size: 7" Diameter x 3" H (17.8 cm x 7.6 cm)
