Frank Lloyd Wright House
ink on paper
In 1950 Russell Kraus commissioned a work of art as his residence, a place that became known as ?The Kraus Haus,? designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for him and his wife Ruth Goetz Kraus, an attorney at law. Wright believed that ?no house should ever be on a hill?it should be of the hill, belonging to it. Hill and home should live together.? In this fashion, Wright created a modest middle-range Usonian home designed from a parallelogram-shaped grid and into a hill in Kirkwood, a suburb of St. Louis. The house was built over the course of a decade, and sometime during Kraus' 40-year residency there, he penned this beautiful rendition of his beloved home/ FLW masterpiece made "of the hill," set here in this sketch behind a tall grove of evergreen trees.

Monogrammed lower right, framed.
This drawing depicts the Ebsworth House, where Russell Kraus lived.
