Description
An antique American pressure gauge for Steam Pump from the second half of the 19th century by Henry Worthington. The manometer has a thin stem with a handle on the reverse side and is mounted on a square onyx base. Marked Henry Worthington, New York, Steam. Henry Worthington,1817 to 1880, was an American mechanical engineer, inventor, industrialist, and founder of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1880. Worthington had several inventions leading to the perfection of the direct steam pump in 1845, patented the duplex steam pump in 1859, and built the first duplex waterworks engine, widely adopted and used for over 75 years.
