Description
This antique map, crafted by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780, focuses on the Middle East, centering on the Ottoman Empire. It encompasses the Balkans, Greece, parts of Persia, the Black Sea region, and Crimea, and extends as far south as the mouth of the Nile. The map is part of "Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens," an important work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot. Due to the controversial nature of the topics discussed in the work, such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary political and social issues, it was banned in France and subsequently published in Geneva, Switzerland. Crafted through copperplate engraving, this map is presented in overall very good condition, with authenticity guaranteed. It measures 9 1/2" x 14 1/2".
