Note: There is glass glare in the top of the photo of the painting in frame. The glass had so much glare that I couldn't get a picture without the glare. Hal Akins was born in 1924 in Spokane, Washington where he was reared and schooled, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington State University. He then moved to Los Angeles for further study and received his Master of Arts degree at Los Angeles State College. For the following twelve years, Mr. Akins divided his time between teaching art and coaching football and basketball teams. Seven of these years were spent in Washington, while three were spent at Columbia Basin Junior College in Pasco, Washington, as head art instructor. In later years Mr. Akins returned to Southern California and became affiliated with Laguna Beach High School. Here he again divided his talents between coaching football, basketball and tennis and teaching art. Mr. Akins’ works have been exhibited throughout Eastern Washington, with one-man shows in Wenetchee, Pasco, and Yakima. He has won a number of prizes for his paintings, which have hung in Central Washington, Seal Beach and San Clemente. His watercolor won Third Prize at the 1963 Festival of Arts. He has also had one-man shows in San Bernardino and Fontana, California. Some of his works currently hang in Galleries in Palos Verdes, Santa Ana and Laguna Beach.
