A "Le Maire" pair of green enamel and smoked pearl decoration, a small pair with near black vermeil enamel and foliate gilt metal decoration with lorgnette handle, pair of abalone and brass, and a pair of floral on red enamel decorated with leather case, all with adjustable dials.

From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.

Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
