American and English, 19th and 20th century. Twenty-two pieces highlighted by a London 1907 hallmarked chatelaine, several leather, metal and more, some with imperfections.
From the collection of Dr. J. William Rosenthal, M.D.
Dr. Rosenthal was a well-known ophthalmologist, an expert on the history of spectacles and other visual aids, a renowned collector, an author, and a generous benefactor of many institutions. His father, Jonas W. Rosenthal, MD, is the namesake of the museum of ophthalmology at Tulane University. Optical devices from his collection can be found in over sixteen museums including the Museum of Vision of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
