Description
This is a bronze sculpture of Botero's Leda and the Swan which is a motif from Greek mythology in which Zeus came to Leda in the form of a swan. The story goes that Zeus took the form of a swan and raped or seduced Leda on the same night she slept with her husband King Tyndareus. According to later Greek mythology, Leda bore Helen and Polydeuces, children of Zeus. Leda is seen nude laying on her back in complete resignation to the stare of the seducing god Zeus. The sculpture's artistic approach resembles that of Botero's figurative and proportionally exaggerated objects. The sculpture was cast using the archaic method of lost-wax casting and finished with a brown patina stain for preservation. It is mounted upon a black marble base with the replica artist Milo's signature.
