A typed note on verso records that the portrait was presented to William Reynold by John B. Wallace, an attorney and landowner of Meadville, New Jersey, in 1835-1837.

Condition
Craquelure throughout, scattered pigment loss to edges of portrait at painted reserve. Scuffs and pigment loss and wear to painted reserve/mat. Under UV light the varnish obscures possible scattered, minor retouch.
