Paul Davis (American, B. 1938) original oil on panel painting titled "Cognac," signed lower right.

This painting appeared on page 76 of the February 1967 issue of Playboy magazine, illustrating the article by Maurice Zolotow titled "Cognac," with the caption, "Once nought but medicine, this distinguished distillate of the grape has been for three centuries the headiest libation of them all."

LITERATURE: Arthur Paul, Beyond Illustration: The Art of Playboy, (Chicago: Playboy Magazine, 1971), catalogue accompanying an exhibition that traveled in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan between 1971 and 1974.
