2nd-7thC Gandharan Hardstone Ring with Buddha Head. Ctainly from the classic period of Gandharan sculpture. IT has am AMAZING face. The stone it is carved out of looks to be a hard Stone that would have been difficult to carve and finish, especially to this very fine detail. I acquired this piece along with 2 closely related bracelets . Both are also listed on my website. All three are carved and finished to a very high standard. I was fortunate to be able to obtain these three in a trade with a long-time collector of Gandara and other early associated sculptures who also collected and wrote about antique opium weights from throughout southeast Asia and India. I traded him an entire collection of opium weights for these three pieces And feel grateful that I was able to do so. I wanted to purchase some of his other pieces, as he had packed away several fine authentic stone and bronze Gandharan pieces, but I could not negotiate down to an affordable price. I've never seen anything like them, especially in the quality of the sculpting and finishing. I've been reluctant to sell them as I find myself mesmerized (and attached) by them every time I study them.
