Collection of a United States Foreign Service diplomat stationed in Taiwan 1955-1960, acquired directly from the artist, and thence by descent.
Acquired by the present owner from the above diplomat's son.

Born in I-lan 宜蘭 County, Taiwan during the period of Japanese rule (1895-1945), Ran In-Ting rose to prominence as a renowned Taiwanese watercolor painter and later served as the CEO of Chinese Television System Inc. 中華電視公司 during the 1960s and 1970s. Ran originated from a modest background, and he consistently drew inspiration from the landscapes of his hometown, which remained his favored subject matter throughout his career. In 1924, Ran's exceptional talent caught the attention of Japanese painter Kinichiro Ishikawa 石川欽一郎, who discovered him during an inspection of fine art education in I-lan. Encouraged by Ishikawa, Ran pursued further study under his guidance, leading to the selection of his works for exhibition in the prestigious Japan Fine Arts Exhibition 帝國美術展覽會. Ran's art later gained international recognition, with retrospective exhibitions held at the National Palace Museum, Taipei in 1991, and the National Museum of History, Taipei in 1998.

The three drawings are overall in good condition. Both the mat and the paper have toned slightly, exhibiting stains, particularly along the edges of the mat.
