Description
Chinese late 17th or early 18th Century Round Kesi Imperial Badge with the 5 Claw Dragon facing full front around the Flaming Pearl, above its neck a small Cockerel in the Sun with further Bats and Peaches; now mounted between 2 sheets of ovoid glass sealed with gold ribbon in the passe-partout style. Height 12 3/4 inches (32.3 cm.) X width 11 3/4 inches (29.8 cm.). NOTE: A typed note inside back glass: "Brought from Peking, China by Mrs. C H Fenn, 1918 [presumably the wife of Courtenay Hughes Fenn (1866-1953) American Presbyterian missionary to China]. Royal tapestry Crest presumably having belonged to the former Dowager Empress Tse-hsi (1835-1909), etc.
