Description
Christie's Nanking Cargo Chinese Tea Bowl & Plate circa 1751, with a Pavilion in a landscape in blue & white with ribbon border, both with original "Nanking Cargo" labels with same lot number. Diameter of cup 3 inches (7.6 cm.). Diameter of plate 4 3/4 inches (12 cm.). PROVENANCE: Christie's Amsterdam "The Nanking Cargo Sale" 1986, Lot 5066. The VOC Ship the "Geldermalsen'' which was built in 1747 and sunk 1752 with full porcelain cargo dating this tea cup very accurately to no later than October / December 1751; from the private collection of a California Restaurateur.
Condition
The cup with minute glaze flake to mouth and an oval hairline bruise, the plate in good condition with a short firing line to mouth edge from the original kiln firing filled with glaze.
